16 Families Of Slain Police Officers Receive N16 Million Cash

The families of 16 police officers who died in Borno Statem during the , where on Thursday given the sum of N16 million cash.

Lawal Tanko, the state Commissioner of Police, who presented the cash at a ceremony in Maiduguri, said the money was donated by the Borno State Government to provide relief to the affected families, pending when their death benefits would be paid.  

“This is a sad moment to us. We are here to witness the issuance of N1 million cash donated by Borno government to each family of the 16 policemen who died during an insurgent attack in Gamboru-Ngala. The state government felt it is wise to provide some relief to the families of the fallen heroes to lessen their hardship, pending when their death benefits will be released. Fortunately, the Inspector-General of Police (I-G) had already directed the immediate payment of the benefits to the families” Tanko said.

The commissioner of police also reiterated the command’s readiness to ensure the success of the ongoing war against terrorism by putting in more efforts.
“I want to assure that officers and men of the command are determined to continue the fight against terrorism and insurgency no matter the cost. We will continue to discharge our responsibilities without hinderance” he said.  
Meanwhile, four police officers who also sustained injuries in the attack were given the sum of N200, 000 each.
The commissioner while thanking the state government for its tremendous supports to the police said: “the Borno government had been very supportive to the command. I wish to thank Gov. Kashim Shettima for the gesture”.   
Tanko also commended the Inspector General of police, Mohammed Abubakar, for the numerous welfare packages he introduced for police, adding that such packages had helped in boosting the morale of officers and men toward performing their duties better
