The complainant had argued that his 29-year-old wife “failed at an essential obligation of marital life
’’ by refusing to consummate their union during the four nights of their honeymoon.
A report quoted his lawyer as saying that the action left him in “tremendous mental agony.’’
The husband also did not like her going to a different city for work in shirt and trousers, according to his lawyer.
A family court granted him the requested divorce in 2012.
The wife appealed in the Mumbai high court, which found in her favour on March 3, saying: “Married life should be assessed as a whole and a few isolated instances over certain period will not amount to cruelty.
“The wife’s lawyer provided a valid reason for her behaviour, and there was no complaint since the honeymoon."
