Hours after it was reported that police officers shot a serving senator, the Rivers Police Command has denied dispersing any bullet.
It was earlier reported that the police had shot sporadically to disperse members of the Save Rivers Movement, a non governmental association and a senator representing Rivers South East senatorial district, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe was hit by a bullet.
Speaking with newsmen in Port-Harcourt, Deputy Superintendent of Police, (DSP), Ahmad Muhammad said the police did not dispense any bullet while dispersing a rally by Save Rivers Movement on Sunday.
“I can confirm to you that Sen. Magnus Abe was not shot. The police did not expend any single bullet while dispersing the crowd.
“It is not true. The police did not shoot the senator, we only used minimum force to disperse the crowd at the venue of the rally,’’ he said.
According to him, the group was dispersed because they did not obtain a permit and no shot was fired.
