Nigeria midfielder Sunday Mba has accepted the offer from French club CA Bastia. The move effectively rules him out of the 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The Ligue 2 club has courted the 25-year-old since his exploits for the Super Eagles at the 2013 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in South Africa.
Assistant coach of the Super Eagles Dan Amokachi confirmed that the man that was expected to pull the strings at CHAN could leave camp this weekend to seal his move to Stade d'Erbajolo.
"We have resigned ourselves to fate and working hard to discover those who can fill Mba's shoes, as he seems to have nicked a deal with Bastia," Amokachi said.
"He may not be part of CHAN tourney. We just to brace up and wish him the best because it's a career thing," he added.
Earlier, the team's Media Officer, Ben Alaiya, quoted head coach Stephen Keshi as having expressed doubts about the player's availability.
"Keshi said on Thursday that Mba was on his way to France to join Bastia, the French league side which first indicated interest in the player after the Nations Cup triumph," Alayia said.
The CHAN event, the third since 2009, is for players featuring for clubs on the continent.
Meanwhile, it has also been disclosed that the process of trimming the team had began in earnest on Thursday with the departure from camp of three players.
The players are Sunshine Stars' Kingsley Onome, Bendel Insurance's Bello Ikeleji and Eric Kwame of Plateau United. More players were being expected to be decamped after the game in Port Harcourt and after Monday's match against Kano Pillars.
