Burna Boy (real name Damini Ogulu) is reported to have angrily left the 2013 Headies Awards after Sean Tizzle was announced as the winner in “The Next Rated” category, the category was created to celebrate the year’s most promising act, the award comes with a brand new Hyundai Tucson SUV.
According to Bella Naija whose photogs were at the scene of the awards which went down on Boxing Day at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos, 22 year old Burna stormed out of the venue & demanded that no one take his picture as he left with his entourage.
Others nominated in the category were Dammy Krane, Seyi Shay and Phyno.
BN also goes on to report that industry insiders at the event were overheard saying Burna Boy deserved the award more than his fellow nominees, speculating that he didn’t win the award because he is a GLO ambassador and The Headies are sponsored by rival telecommunications company MTN Nigeria!
To be fair Burna had about 3 solid hits this year & I only know of one that Sean Tizzle has…Sho Lee which was written by Sound Sultan. So even though we all think Burna deserved the win, storming out of the event just makes him a sore loser…and no one likes a sore loser.
